2000 Geek Awards

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, this was a tradition started by Kelvin Lawrence the 2nd year of ColoradOS/2 in Cheyenne, and I've been doing it for the last several years at the annual Friday night pizza party, with some help from Aidon typically. The first year Kelvin actually collected fees from all the 'winners' to help buy the next round of drinks - now it's an honorary award, with nothing gained nor lost, besides a bit of embarrassment and laughter.

Peter Haggar For criticizing the empty catch block on the pumpkins
Simon Phipps For uttering the phrase: "the network is the network"
Aidon Jennery For coming up with the apt definition of: "JINI - I think it's basically distributed computing with the assumption that the network is always down"
Noel For uttering the phrase "I found the bug in Windows!"
Evan For uttering the phrase: "If you go to 'available networks' you can see the available networks"
Dave Landers For bringing in the low-tech, automatic blow-job device.
Mike Brown For getting his rental car reserved under the name of a fellow IBMer, so it would get paid for by IBM: Neil Graham... The rental car agent was just a bit suspicious about the whole "main driver, alternate driver" explanation.
Mike Bowler For leaving almost immediately after these awards because he left his flight bookings so late - and he has to be on the road at oh-fuck-thirty.
Paul G. For missing his first pizza party just because of some brother getting married story
Wayne and Peggy For both coming up with the following supposition, completely independently, when they saw the damage I had done to two of my fingers before arriving: "what - a bad run in with a marital aid?" What kinds of marital aids do YOU guys have?!?
Kimberly For arriving at the conference counting in octal, but leaving with the ability to count in decimal. (Bad kitchen accident involving two fingers ... they're nearly better now, phew!)
David Jennery For writing an unauthorized biography about Mike Brown.
Bonnie For being completely enamored with XSLT 2.0 sequences.
Denise For IMing accidentally on the big screen, before her session
Dion For wearing pajamas that everyone thinks are cows, for 6 years in a row
Eddie Kovsky For being the first Kovsky to come to a Polar Bar!
Mike Bowler take II For somehow managing not to get a single QOOC attributed to him
Will Jaynes (in the geek awards on demand category) For being so excited about his first QOOC
David Moskowitz (in the slightly recycled award category) For NOT holding his annual BOFs on How to be an author and how to be a consultant, also known as How to be like me part 1 and how to be like me part 2
Kelvin For finding the following error message from a microsoft product: "Your presentation has been changed while the machine was off. Do you want to save it now?"
