I'm using the same material for the backing as I did for the borders. Here it is, right side down, in the only room in the house with both enough floor space, and a door that closes.
| Now i've put the batting down ... and starts to become obvious why the door might be important.
| ...real important.
|
Absolutely impossible to do this without the door closed!
| Smokey IS awfully cute getting ready to pounce though ... she thinks she's so sneaky.
| There!
|
Let's try this again. Batting on backing...
| The center has been pinned so I can line it all up.
| Now I line up the top on the batting and backing.
|
I've lined up the middles which were marked by safety pins.
| On all 4 edges.
| Then I pin-basted the layers together. In the close-up you can see the pins holding it all together.
|
I opened the door, and voila - instant kitty! Smokey likes to go after the pins.
| ...or the edges...
| she's never alone of course.
|
Okay, now for tying this quilt. I was doing this quickly, over a weekend, so I decided to try my hand at tying instead of quilting. I used this curved hook, and thin crochet yarn.
| I put the needle through all 3 layers, and back up through all three, about 1/4" away.
| ...pulled it through, but not all the way. I have equal lengths on both sides of the needle here.
|
Here's a better pic of it after it came through.
| and SNIP! and the needle isn't attached.
| And tie in a double knot.
