Joyous Birth Members - Kat's Birth Story
Announcing the birth of Keely Eileen -- DOB 5-30-98 -- 8 lb 4 oz (I'm just 5'
2'') -- 20 in.
Thank you for your support. By the time the messages came in on the meconium,
my labor was already hot and heavy -- just about 7 hours total -- not bad for
a first baby.
Unfortunately, I did not quite pull off the UC. I became very confused toward
the end of transition. The pain almost completely stopped, but I was still
having contractions. I thought I was moving into phase II, but I could tell
the baby wasn't moving. My husband didn't know how to check me and we were
completely alone. I started worrying about the baby, especially with the
meconium -- the meconium staining was pretty heavy. So, I asked my husband to
take me to the hospital. When we got there, it turned out I was only 8-9 cm.
I finished dilating to 10 within 15 min, and pushed for about 40 min. Keely
was born at 1:55 p.m. central time.
As it turns out my doctor was unavailable, and the most horrible SOB in the
world delivered the baby. He got very angry with us when I said I did not
want a pudental and that I wanted him to let me tear if that should happen (it
did -- mostly because of him -- second degree). That last hour I spend in the
hospital was far more difficult that the first 6 I spent at home combined.
I'm happy that I was there for Keely's sake (just in case) -- and she is soooo
beautiful. But I'm still really angry about the way the doctor treated me.
If anyone wants the ugly details, I'll be more than happy to vent -- just let
me know.
Remember that important test my husband had to take. Well, that was on 5-30,
oh well, he'll have to wait another year and pay another $500 (they won't let
me carry the fee over). I kept apologizing all through labor.
Well, I need to go and get back to my new baby girl. I'm so in love. Breast
feeding is going wonderful. I was able to feed her right after birth, and I
think that helped a lot. Thank you for all of your prayers and support.
